October 10 - Psalms 112, 113, 114

Today's reading in our daily plan is Psalms 112, 113, & 114. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • Chapter 112 talks about how a person who lives with respect for God will be blessed. In this chapter, we learn about how a person like this should live:
    • They give generously to those who are less fortunate.
    • They don’t have anything to fear because they always live honestly.
    • They don’t have a list of lies to keep track of.
    • Finally, a righteous person like this will have a good reputation because they’re good to be around. Good people leave a positive impact on you, and you don’t forget that.
  • Chapter 113 encourages everyone to praise God because he cares for us. The cool thing in this psalm is it talks about God meeting the deepest emotional and relational needs for people with no return to himself. God wants the best for us. We often forget that.
  • Chapter 114 recounts how God took care of the people of Israel as He liberated them from slavery.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • If we are consistently taking steps to become the kind of person God wants us to be, we can face scary and painful situations with the confidence that He is going to see us through.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • Are you trying to live like the type of person talked about in Psalm 112? Do you leave a positive impact on those around you? Are you generous with others? Jesus tells us to love God and love others. If we live like this then we will leave a great impact on the people we interact with every day and we’ll live a life that makes God smile.
