October 6 - Micah 2 & 3

Today's reading in our daily plan is Micah 2 & 3. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • In today’s reading, chapter 2 begins by explaining that God is against those who plot evil deeds at night and carry them out in the day, and they will suffer in punishment. Over the years, God had sent many prophets to warn the people about the consequences of their actions but there were also many false prophets who told the people nothing bad would happen to them despite the poor choices they made.
  • Chapter 2 ends with a promise of two joyful events to come: first, the people of Israel would one day return from their exile in Babylon. Second, later in the future, God will gather together all the people that believe in Jesus.
  • In chapter 3, Micah accuses the false leaders and promises the people that a good and fair King will come. Those who were in a leadership role twisted the truth for their own gain instead of guiding the people to follow God. Because of this, God’s judgement would fit the seriousness of the crimes.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • God holds those in positions of power and leadership accountable for the effects they have on others. However, each of us are also accountable for our own thoughts and actions, and there are consequences for the choices we make.
  • God loves us so much that he always gives us free will to make our own choices and shares up front what the results of those choices will be, even if it will take many years before they are realized.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • Who are the influencers in your life? Do they lead you towards peace? And who are the people that look up to YOU? What example are you setting for those who study your life for guidance? Take a few moments to talk to God and ask him to bring clarity and wisdom to make the right choices as you go through your day today.
