Daniel 9

Today's reading in our daily plan is Daniel 9. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • Daniel knew the Bible said that the people of Israel would be outcast for 70 years and so he prayed to God and admitted to the wrongs that had been done. And while praying he continues to recognize God as merciful and forgiving (see verse 9 and verse 18).
  • During this prayer, Daniel receives another visit from the angel Gabriel who explained Daniel’s vision in yesterday’s chapter 8. In the second half of today’s chapter (verses 24-27), Gabriel delivers God’s answer to Daniel’s prayer.
  • God promises that freedom is coming for the people of Israel who are in captivity and that freedom for everyone will come for everyone through Jesus.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • God is loving and compassionate. He is always ready to listen to you and to give you peace. You may not get an instant answer to the specific question but he can give you calmness in the waiting.
  • God promises redemption for the world! Sometimes in the middle of really crappy things we feel like God has forgotten us, or maybe never knew us, but just like in today’s chapter, the Bible says time and again that God will help us.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • Are you in the midst of a stormy life today? Do you feel weary and run-down? Take a minute right now and be honest with God. He doesn’t want you to talk to him only when things are good, he wants to you to be comforted when you are hurting.
