Ezekiel 39

Today's reading in our daily plan is Ezekiel 39. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • Today’s chapter shows an example of how God will make the most careless and hardened transgressors know him, either by his righteous anger, or by the riches of his mercy and grace.
  • God’s power is shown through the size of the enemy that he defeats: it will take 7 years to burn all the weapons and 7 months to bury the dead (see verses 9-13).
  • At the end of the chapter, in verses 25-28, God is “zealous” in his love for the people of Israel and both the Israelites and many other nations would know him.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • Great things came out of a bad situation and it doesn’t lessen the pain that is often paired with tough times. God can help remind us of a perspective bigger than ourselves, though, and he offers comfort in those times as well.
  • God doesn’t want to wait until you are perfect before you get to know him; in fact he wants to have a relationship with you already, exactly as you are today.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • What’s holding you back from getting to know God? Are you ashamed of past choices or are you in the middle of rough waters? Not only does God love you deeply right now, he will also help you become the best you. It starts with just talking to him. Take a moment right now and ask God to help you understand the love he has for you.
