Ezekiel 2 & 3

Today's reading in our daily plan is Ezekiel 2 & 3. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • God’s Spirit spoke to Ezekiel the prophet and told him the people of Israel were rebellious and would not listen but God made Ezekiel as “hardheaded” as the Israelites. Ezekiel will not give up. The message God had to deliver the people was one of sorrow and suffering.
  • Ezekiel ate God’s word and it was “sweet as honey” (see verse 3:3). Then Ezekiel waited seven days and received another message from God which told him again to warn the people even if they refused to listen. Following the command of God would be counted for Ezekiel regardless of whether his words were heeded.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • God is not surprised by future outcomes. He knew that although he was sending his message through Ezekiel the prophet, the people of Israel would ignore the warnings to turn from their sinful ways. God knows the outcome of all things before we can even imagine it. These chapter show us that the most important thing is to follow God’s commands even when no one else is listening or obeying him
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • Fear is a powerful motivator. What is fear keeping you from today? Do you fear rejection? The pain of hearing no? Or perhaps the pain of yes? Fear of defeat? Fear of appearing weak for asking for help? Today, take a moment to talk to God. Tell him that you know he already know the order of things and how this event in your life will play out. Ask him to give you strength to trust that in all things God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love him (see Romans 8:28).
