I Should On Others

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we started a new series called Should Happens and talked about "I Should On Myself". If you missed it, you can listen to it here.

  1. What job had the best job description of all the jobs you've ever had? What job had the worst?
  2. This week we talked about the expectations we put on others, that it's almost like we have job descriptions we expect others to live up to.
    • Why do you think it's so easy and normal to put expectations on others?
    • Why do you think it's not fair to others to put expectations on them?
  3. Jesus said, in Matthew 7:1-3, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. ... Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" And the Bible says in Romans 2:1-2, "You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth."
    • Based on these two passages, what are some reasons Christians shouldn't have standards they expect others to meet?
    • Based on these two passages, what are some reasons Christians aren't in the place to judge others?
    • Why do you think judging others leads to our being judged?
    • Why can it be so easy to see fault in others but to not see fault in ourselves?
    • God's judgment of people is "based on truth." Why is it impossible for our judgment of others to be based on truth? What keeps us from being able to fully see the truth about others?
  4. Based on this week's message, and the Bible verses we've looked at, and our discussion, what do you need to change about the way you've been doing life?
  5. Weekly Check In Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
