March 21 - Joshua 23

Today's reading in our daily plan is Joshua 23. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)

  • In this chapter Joshua realizes he is nearing death. This passage records the first part of his final words of wisdom to those who have followed him.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)

  • The recurring theme of Joshua's advice is for Israel to stay close to God and follow his laws. If they do this, Joshua explains, God will continue to lead them and fight for them. Likewise, we should constantly seek to follow God and grow our relationship with him. When we do, it makes it easier for what we want to line up with what God wants for us -- and God wants the best.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)

  • Are you staying close to God? Reading the Bible regularly is a great component of a healthy relationship with God, but are you talking to him throughout the day or adjusting the way you live to match what you're learning about him?
  • Is there a "law" -- something God wants you to do -- that you aren't following? Maybe a relationship you need to end? A relationship you need to begin? A conversation you know you need to have? If there's something God has been pushing you to do, take a step today to make that a reality.
