March 1 - Joshua 18

Today's reading in our daily plan is Joshua 18. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • Even after all of the preceding chapters that detail the allotment of land, there are still seven tribes (or groups of people) that haven't taken the land that God wants to be theirs. Because of their laziness, Joshua gives each group orders to send three appointees to map the land.
  • Once the land is mapped and divided into chunks, they cast lots (think of this as drawing straws) to determine which group gets what part of the land.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)

  • God wants great things for us, but we need to be willing to do our part to make them happen.
  • If there's an area of our life we are neglecting because of lazy-ness or busy-ness or whatever else, we need to assess the situation and do all we can to pursue God's will.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)

  • Is there an important part of your life you're neglecting? Maybe a relationship (or set of relationships) you've let fall apart? A sin you've been hiding? Start taking steps today to pursue God in those situations, and ask him to help guide you.
