Deuteronomy 32

Today's reading in our daily plan is Deuteronomy 32. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)

  • In his final words, Moses leaves his people with a final message in song form.  The song gives a brief retelling of Israel’s history.  It recounts their previous mistakes as well as providing wisdom on how to avoid repeating the same mistakes.  The song offers the hope that only comes from trusting in God.
  • The song serves as a reminder of the great character of God.  It encourages the people to emulate God’s character in their daily living.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)

  • Comparing the goodness of God to the ugliness of sin is a great way to keep our hearts and minds focused on living the best life.
  • God’s people are to imitate God’s good character and nature (see Ephesians 5:1). Living like Jesus every day is our daily mission.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)

  • Why is learning God’s character vital to a well-lived life?
  • What songs remind you of God’s goodness and mercy? Could you start to more regularly listen to songs that help you connect with God?
