Deuteronomy 31

Today's reading in our daily plan is Deuteronomy 31. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)

  • Moses is about to die.  He appoints Joshua as his successor.  Before his departure, he gives Israel a final plea to remain committed to God.  (Verses 1- 8, 14- 30)
  • The Israelites were prone to wandering spiritually.  Knowing this, Moses strongly reminds them to continuously ingest God’s Word.  (Verses 9-13)

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)

  • Spiritual adultery has always been a common struggle for mankind (see verse 16 and James 4:4).
  • To remain spiritually committed to God, we need to fill our hearts and minds with His Word.  Scripture provides us with wisdom, clarity, and strength.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)

  • Why would you say it’s crucial to remain relentlessly devoted to God?
  • How can you better ingest God’s Word on a regular basis?  What specific step(s) could you take to build the habit into your life?
  • Besides attending church service, what do you do to grow in your understanding of the Word?
