Deuteronomy 33

Today's reading in our daily plan is Deuteronomy 33. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)

  • In this chapter, Moses is actually leaving Israel’s camp in order to enter his final sleep on Mt. Nebo.  He leaves the Israelites with a song that reflects his learnings of God’s glory (verses 1-5), God’s blessings on the people (verses 6-25), and the happiness and joy experienced by God’s people (verses 26-29).
  • Moses’ song specifically mentions the unique blessings and giftedness of the specific tribes of God’s people.
  • As Israel’s leader, Moses makes every effort to leave behind a meaningful legacy to his people.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)

  • Like the tribes of Israel, every person has been uniquely blessed and gifted by God to make an impact on this world.
  • God’s people should strive to leave a lasting legacy on the generations to follow.  Our legacy should be marked by our faithfulness, mercy, and justice.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)

  • What gifts, talents, or passions has God gifted to you?
  • How are you using these to help serve other people?
  • How can you use your gifts, talents, and passions to leave behind a Godly legacy?
