Deuteronomy 30

Today's reading in our daily plan is Deuteronomy 30. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • As Moses warns the Israelites of rebelling against God, he reminds them of God’s amazing ability to forgive and restore those who wander spiritually.
  • Moses reminds the Israelites that every person has a choice.  God will not force His will upon anyone.  Choosing to follow God is to choose life.  Choosing to live a life apart from God is choosing death.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • God extends grace and forgiveness to those who are undeserving.  (see Luke 15:11-32)  This passage is an encouraging reminder that God is capable of restoring those who wander or rebel spiritually.
  • God gives us the path for a wonderful life (see Proverbs 3:5-6).  Following His path will not only lead to extravagant blessing (see John 10:10) but will help us avoid the pits of sin and temptation (see 1 Corinthians 10:13).

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • What motivates you to obey God daily?
  • What are some things that distract or tempt you from staying on path with God?  What are some specific action steps you can take this week to help stay committed to God?
