Deuteronomy 27

Today's reading in our daily plan is Deuteronomy 27. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)

  • Moses was reviewing the law with the new generation of people.  He gives tangible ways for them to keep spiritually focused by using altars and sacrificial offerings.  (Verses 1-8)
  • Moses gives specific instructions to avoid the path of life that brings destruction and misery.  By following his instructions, they will live lives that reap the blessings of God.  (Verses 9-26)

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)

  • When we decide to commit our lives to God, we must also decide to follow his ways (see John 14:15).  How we live our lives reflects what we truly believe (see James 2:18).
  • God wants us our lives to experience abundance and fulfillment (see John 10:10).  Christians today are to follow the instructions that lead to the blessed life (see Matthew 5:1-12).

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)

  • How do your actions reflect your faith in God?
  • What parts of your life that does not match up to what you believe about God?
  • Are you experiencing the abundant life God Jesus died for you live?  If not, spend some time in prayer asking God to show you what you need to do in order to experience that blessed life He has waiting for you.
