Numbers 33

Today's reading in our daily plan is Numbers 33. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)

  • This chapter is more or less a recap of the Israelites' 40-year journey from Egypt to the Promised Land.  Four significant events are covered in this chapter:

    1. God calls Aaron to the top of Mt. Heron, where he dies at the age of 120-years
    2. God commands Moses to make a written account of their 40-year trek
    3. God tells Moses that it’s time to go into Cannan and take the land which he has promised to them
    4. God commands the Israelites to drive out every Cannanite from the Promised Land, without exception.  God warns Moses that allowing any Cannanite to remain in the land, will cause future problems for the Israelites.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • God is working through Moses and Aaron to tie up all the loose ends before the Israelites enter into the land of Cannan.  He wants to make sure that the Israelites are going to receive His full blessing in the land and not encounter unnecessary problems.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • Have you ever found yourself questioning the "logic" of something you know God has directed you to do?  Perhaps you have hesitated to move in that direction out of concern of what others might think of you; maybe you hesitate simply because you cannot see how this direction will benefit you. Commit today to trust God and follow his guidance even if it doesn't currently seem make sense.
