Numbers 34

Today's reading in our daily plan is Numbers 34. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • God is giving Moses final instructions before entering the Promised Land. He defines the borders of Israel and names the two men (Eleazar and Joshua) who should lead the division of the land (it’s a lot of land). Remember that 2½ Tribes (the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and ½ of Manasseh’s tribe) had settled outside of the Promised Land, so Cannan will be divided among the remaining tribes. God also names one prince from each tribe to go with Eleazar and Joshua to assist in the division.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • Notice that God did not simply lead the Israelites to the entrance of the Promised Land and desert them. He had every detail planned out. He had laid the groundwork so they could prosper in the land He had provided them.
  • Many times we let God lead us to a certain point in our journey and then we feel like we can handle it from there. Unfortunately, when we try to take over God’s lead role in our lives, we are inviting trouble.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • Can you identify any instances in your life where you have "taken over" and later regretted it?  Work on being able to identify this habit. Once you have an awareness of this tendency, it will be much easier for you to step out of God’s way.
