Numbers 29

Today's reading in our daily plan is Numbers 29. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • Again (as in the book of Leviticus, which we read through prior to Numbers) we read about the various types of special times of worship, often marked by feasts, such as the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement (a time of confession and repentance), and the Feast of Tabernacles.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • If you've been following the reading plan all year, you may be wondering, "Why are we reading about these same things again?" The reason is because God had Moses tell the Israelites about these same things again and again. The last verse of this chapter says, "Moses told the Israelites all that the Lord commanded him." God wanted to refocus the Israelites, and to make sure they didn't forget the essentials of living life with and for God.
  • The same is true for us. In the New Testament, we see Paul wrote to the Christians at Philippi (a church he had started), "It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you" (Philippians 3:1).
  • We need to hear the same foundational truths about God, and about how we should live our lives with and for God, over and over.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • We need to hear the same truths about God and life with Him over and over. That's why we're never too experienced to learn again, that "God loves you" or that we need to "love your neighbor as you love yourself."
  • At Verve we have three core Verve U courses we hope everyone will go through: Verge, Verb, and Verse. If you grew up in church or have read the Bible a lot, some of the material (especially in Verge) may be things you've learned before. But that's okay. We need to learn those foundational truths again and again.
  • Have you been to all three of Verve's core classes? If not, commit to doing so, and sign up the next time they're offered! A new round of Verb begins in just a few weeks.
