Questions: The Grace Explosion

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week our series was Life In 140 in which we're studying through the Bible book called Philippians. This week we focused on the first half of chapter one. If you missed it, you can listen to it here.
  1. When is the last time you actually wrote someone a letter? Why did you write it?
  2. Read Philippians 1:1-11
  3. The first word (after the initial greeting) is "grace" and later (verse 7) we read "you share in God's grace with me." Grace means to get the opposite of what you deserve. Why do you think grace is at the very core of Christianity?
  4. Paul writes "grace and peace" - in what way do you think grace leads to peace?
  5. A lot of people would say to be a Christian means "guilt and pressure." Why do you think so many people have Christianity backwards?
  6. Would you say your life is marked more by grace and peace or guilt and pressure? Why?
  7. Paul (the author) prays that the Philippians love might abound. How do you see love abounding in your life? Where do you see love lacking in your life?
  8. We learn in verses 9-10 that love is what leads us to lead a pure life. Why do you think love is the right motivator for right behavior, not guilt or judgment?
  9. Vince talked about the "grace explosion" - what should happen inside a person when they realize that God loves them despite their sin and wants to be in their lives. How do you think this grace explosion could lead to a life of grace and peace and love?
  10. Have you experienced the grace explosion? Why or why not? If not, what do you think it would take to have it?
  11. Accountability Question:  How have I passionately pursued deeper relationships with those closest to me?
  12. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
