Verve Haps

This past weekend, April at Verve went out in style:
  • Wrapped up our Pinky Swear series by talking about the Vow of Partnership. So many couples, especially in today's culture, treat marriage like a contract: instead of throwing all of their trust and love into their spouse, they feel like they are entitled to something, or they withhold some aspect of communication because they want to protect themselves in case the marriage goes bad. This sets an unhealthy tone for the marriage, and more often than not it ends up causing major problems down the road.
  • The solution to this is for spouses to love each other with the purity of Christ. God loves us with unconditional love, and each person in a marriage should love their spouse with a love that is unconditional; a love that is selfless and loyal and centered around Jesus. We talked about a few different ways this could play out, but one thing you can do to drastically increase the health of your marriage is to pray with your spouse. 6 out of 10 marriages end in divorce, but for couples who pray together daily those odds drop to 1 out of 1100 (!). If you're married and don't currently pray with your spouse, maybe you could try it this week. It will be awkward at first, but as you talk to God with each other, you'll find that you grow closer to each other and to Jesus. It's a really cool thing to experience.
  • For the first time in Verve's history we performed a wedding in the middle of the service! Well... sort of. If you couldn't be there in person, you'll have to watch online this week to see what we're talking about.
