Genesis 25:1-13

Today's reading in our daily plan is Genesis 25:1-13. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • At the beginning of this chapter we learn that after Sarah died Abraham remarried and had more children. However, the promise we've seen God make to bless Abraham with a nation of descendants was through Isaac.
  • Then we read that Abraham died at 175 years old and was buried with Sarah, and the lineage of Ishmael.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • Remember that Ishmael was the son Abraham had with his maid, Hagar. More on this tomorrow...

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • This chapter is mainly a factual account of Abraham and his offspring. However, have you ever thought about what legacy you will leave after you die? How will you be remembered?
  • What impact will your life have on your family and friends? Will it be a positive impact or negative?
  • Does your life set the example for your children and grandchildren to follow?  Choose to live your life in such a way to have the impact you want to have on those closest to you.
