Genesis 24:1-31

Today's reading in our daily plan is Genesis 24:1-31. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • The beginning of this chapter quickly gets weird. Abraham asks one of his servants to put his hand under his thigh. This was actually a practice done in their day to make a promise. Strange for us but normal for them.
  • God lined everything up for Isaac to marry a girl named Rebekah.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • Did you notice what Abraham requested of his servant? He wanted to make sure his son would be married to someone who believed in the same God as he did.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • Abraham was considered a man who followed hard after God and he modeled this for his son. It’s pretty cool how Abraham showed his son how important it was to follow God in every way, especially in choosing your spouse. Do you include God in all your decisions? If you’re a parent, do you show your children the importance of following God in every area of life?
