Verve Haps

At Verve this past weekend the month of March got off to a great start!
  • Continued our God For The Rest Of Us series by talking about God For The Children. In today's society it sounds kind of stereotypical and expected to say that God is for children, but when Jesus presented this idea it was revolutionary. Children used to be regarded as disposable and unimportant; it was extremely common (and totally accepted) for newborns to be left to die if the parents were not satisfied with them for any reason. Jesus, on the other hand, thinks children are extremely valuable, and that we should view them accordingly. (Also, we were probably the only church in America that mentioned both Darth Vader and Olivia Newton-John in the same message...)
  • We talked about a lot of ways this could play out in your life, but a great first step you can take right now is to sign up to volunteer in Verve's children's ministry. How cool would it be to impact children's lives by hanging out with kids in fun, high-energy environments for a couple of hours each week?
  • Another cool opportunity for you to help change kids' lives is by helping out with the Easter Egg Hunt we're hosting at Dean Petersen Elementary on Saturday, March 23. Dean Petersen is in a poverty-stricken part of Las Vegas, and this Egg Hunt is one of the things we do to show their students God's love and create a memorable experience. To pull this off we are going to need lots of eggs and lots of individually wrapped candy, and you can drop off both of those in the box set up in the lobby. You can also sign up to volunteer at the Hunt by stopping by the Velcro Bar.
  • Daylight Savings Time kicks in this coming weekend, so make sure you set your clocks forward an hour on Saturday night!
