Verve Haps

This past weekend marked the end of football and the end of our series called Bold As Love!

  • Wrapped up the series by talking about Bold Obedience. When we give our lives to God, he leads us to do things that can seem kind of odd, intimidating, or inconvenient -- such as giving more of our time to help others, talking to friends about God, kicking unhealthy habits (and maybe unhealthy people), and changing the way we see our past, our present, or our future. Spending regular time with God (by reading the Bible and praying) can help give you a better idea of what God is leading you to do, but there will always be some degree of fear because this kind of change doesn't come easily. The key to overcoming this fear is to realize that the payoff is so worth it: when you obey God and do the things he wants you to do, you allow God to mold your life and lead other people closer to him and the full life he offers.
  • For example, maybe you've got a coworker that you know you need to talk to about God (or invite to church), but you're (understandably) afraid of the awkwardness that it may cause. However, it's likely that God wants to use you and your conversation to draw that person closer to him, and unless you take that step God won't be able to work in that person's life the way the he wants.
  • Our band opened the service by playing "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons, and they freakin' nailed it! So cool to have a crew of musicians that do a ton of work week in and week out to create a service that helps us connect with people who don't like church.
  • About 50 people came to our Super Bowl Party on Sunday. Had a blast hanging out with other Ververs, watching the 49ers almost pull off an epic comeback, and eating too much food. A few lucky people also walked away with gift cards that were given away at the end of each quarter. Vegas isn't the most friendly town when it comes to trying to get to know other people, so it's fun to offer events like this for folks to spend time (and trash talk!) together in a laid-back environment.
  • This coming weekend is going to be pretty big. We're starting a brand new series called God For The Rest Of Us, and we're asking you to go all out to invite your friends to Verve. This past weekend we gave everyone at Verve a God For The Rest Of Us wristband, a bumper sticker, and a half-dozen invite cards. We're also unleashing billboards, radio ads, magazine ads, and more than 70,000 doorhangers and direct postcards on nearby neighborhoods. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to invite your friends to come to Verve in the next few weeks... so if you got invite cards, start invitin'! Most people have to be invited 7 or 8 times before they agree to check out church, so don't give up just because someone turns you down a few times; your invitation may seriously change their life!
