SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
- In this chapter we learn that Abram was wealthy. Abram and Lot were so wealthy that the land couldn’t even sustain all their livestock.
- Then we see Abram be very generous toward his nephew, Lot. In their culture, Abram would have had authority over Lot, but when Lot complained about where he was living, Abram allowed Lot to choose the better land.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
- Abram had every right in their culture to refuse Lot’s desire for the better land, but Abram was unreasonably generous. We should look for opportunities to show this same level of generosity.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
- Have you ever had an opportunity to be generous with someone even when you didn’t have to? What did you do? God calls Jesus' followers to live lives of generosity. Ask God to give you opportunities today to be generous to others this week.
