Genesis 10

Today's reading in our daily plan is Genesis 10. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • This chapter details the lineage of Noah’s sons.
  • Japheth’s descendants were sailors and mastered traveling the waters.
  • Ham’s descendants were great warriors. We’ll see later that the future enemies of God's people descended from Ham.
  • Shem had many descendants as well and from these people Jesus was eventually born.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • You might be wondering what the big deal is with Noah’s family? Honestly, it may not have a lot of direct application to your personal life but it is important to know when reading the rest of the Bible. Keep these people in mind and see how they and their descendants play into the rest of the story.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • Just like Noah's descendants, we make choices and our choices change the course of our lives and the impact we'll have on the world. Realize that your life is also part of a bigger story. God is inviting you to make choices that allow your life to be a part of the story he's writing and for you to make an impact for him in this world.
