Job 22

Today's reading in our daily plan is Job 22. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)

  • In this chapter, Eliphaz speaks up again. I’m sure he will be very helpful this time . . .
  • Man, this guy is a real jerk. Eliphaz doesn’t mince words this time with Job. He straight out tells Job that he is a sinful person.
  • Eliphaz accuses Job of some rather harsh stuff, being greedy and mean the less fortunate just to name a few.
  • Eliphaz says God has noticed Job’s wickedness and now God is punishing him for his wicked ways.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)

  • Job needed to get a better class of friends. Eliphaz just ignores Job’s words and pleas for a little compassion. Eliphaz clearly believed in a defective faith system. If only Eliphaz had read the scriptures for himself and asked God to reveal the truth to him. This is what we must do ourselves to avoid becoming self-righteous religious jerk ourselves.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)

  • We have to constantly read the Bible and ask God to show us the truth. We must remain humble and always interact with people with love and grace.
