SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
- Ok, so the beginning of this chapter jumps straight into super weird. Abraham asks one of his servants to put his hand under his thigh. This was actually a practice done in their day to make a promise. Strange for us? Yes. But normal for them.
- However, did you notice what Abraham’s request of his servant was? He wanted to make sure his son would be married to someone who believed in the same God as he did.
- God lined everything up for Isaac to marry a girl named Rebekah.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
- Abraham was considered a man who followed hard after God and he modeled this for his son. It’s pretty cool how Abraham showed his son how important it was to follow God in every way, especially in choosing your spouse.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
- If you’re a parent; do you show your children the importance of following God in every area of life? Do you include God in all your decisions?
