Proverbs 28

Today's reading in our daily plan is Proverbs 28. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • A few verses in this chapter talk about how much more peaceful it is to live a good life. When you’re doing right you have no reason to stress.
  • Lots of verses talk about how much people hate following a wicked person but rejoice when under someone who is wise and fair.
  • Verse 13 says if we try to hide our sins then they will come back to haunt us but if we repent then people are quick to give us mercy.
  • We’re also warned about hardening our hearts to God’s guiding. Every time we do we walk towards trouble.
  • Verse 23 tells us that it’s better to have tough conversations with someone than to flatter them with lies. In the end, they will respect you more; if you do it with love.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • Most of this Proverb is about how your life will improve in many ways when you live by God's wisdom. It's easy to be afraid of following some of the wisdom in this chapter. It can be awkward to give criticism to a friend or difficult to confess your sins, but in the end, it's the best way to live. Life on earth can be much more fruitful when you live the wise life God wants for you.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • Is there someone you need to have a tough conversation with but you’ve been avoiding it? Ask God to give you the courage to talk to them and they love to go about it the right way. Are you hiding sin in your life? Find a person you trust and confide in them, and talk to God about it. Hidden sin will destroy you.
  • Lastly, are you trying to live a life that pleases God? If so, then you know how peaceful it is to not have secrets to hide anymore. Ask God to help you continue to live a pure life.]
