Proverbs 27

Today's reading in our daily plan is Proverbs 27. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • The very first verse warns us not to take for granted getting another day to live.
  • Verse 2 teaches us to let other people praise us and not to boast about ourselves.
  • In this chapter, it’s also said that wounds from a friend can be trusted. This is one reason why it’s important to be a good friend, so when you give feedback people will always know you have their best interest at heart.
  • Verse 17 is a great reminder that we need other people just like steel needs steel to sharpen itself.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • This teaches us to have people in our lives that are like-minded (going in the same direction as we are) so we can help keep each other accountable.
  • When we talk about how great we are (even if it’s true) it will always come across as egotistical but if we just do our best someone else will give us credit.
  • We never know when our last moments will be. This is great advice and will keep us thankful for the blessings we have in life.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
    • This chapter teaches us not to get too focused on distractions and to be thankful for each day. What do you normally get distracted with every day? Work? Being angry? Business? Gossip?
    • There were a few verses about being a good friend. Would your friends say you're a good friend? Do you help keep your friends on the right track in life? Ask God to help you be a good friend and to surround yourself with good friends as well.
