Psalms 69 and 70

Today's reading in our daily plan is Psalms 69 & 70. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • The writer of Psalm 69 is pouring his heart out to God and asking for his help. Apparently, he is being continuously mocked for following God.
  • Psalm 70 has the same tone of begging God to save them from their enemies. But the writer of both of these Psalms holds on strong to their faith in God.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • When going through immense pain, even when it was because of their faith, the writer of these psalms (David) turns to God.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • Often when in great pain, we will look to things that give us instant gratification like food, alcohol, or sex. Is there an area of your life where you are turning to instant gratification instead of turning to God? Make today the day you reorient your life around Him. Talk to God and be honest about your struggles, and maybe even invite a trusted friend to hold you accountable.
