Proverbs 11

Today's reading in our daily plan is Proverbs 11. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)

  • The opening three verses tell us three virtues that God values: truthfulness, humility, and integrity.
  • Verse 13 encourages us not to gossip.
  • We also read further down that God delights in people with a pure heart.
  • Verse 22 has one of the most poetic contradictions to reveal how important discretion is.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)

  • At the end of this chapter we read trusting in money is worthless. Instead, we should live pure lives to thrive in this world. Reading the book of Proverbs is full of wisdom to live pure lives but there is also wisdom to just live better. Even is a person does not know if they believe in Jesus, the one whose resurrection we celebrate today, can read the Proverbs to gain wisdom in life.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • Why do you read the Proverbs? What verse spoke most to you in this chapter? What did you learn from it? How will you apply it to your life?
