Proverbs 9

Today's reading in our daily plan is Proverbs 9. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • In this proverb wisdom is described as a woman who takes care of her household and welcomes in people in the city to find protection and nourishment in her home.
  • Folly is seen as a woman who is unrefined and only reaches out to the dimwitted. These people are unaware they are walking into their grave.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • Obviously the writer of this proverb is using everyday images to describe wisdom in appealing ways. It is interesting how many different ways the author does this in the book of Proverbs.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • Do you believe that “if you are wise your wisdom will reward you?” If so, do you seek after God’s wisdom when you have any decision to make in life? If not, where do you go to get advice on life?
