Proverbs 3

Today's reading in our daily plan is Proverbs 3. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)

  • Here are a couple things to think about from the passage:
    • Let love and faithfulness never leave you.
    • Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
    • In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.
    • Honor the Lord with your wealth . . . then your barns will be full.
    • Do not despise the Lord’s discipline.
    • Do not withhold good from those who deserve it.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)

  • Notice that God never promises us a life free from pain but he always says that if we love him and love others he will provide for us. By the way, we all have issues at some level with wanting to give our money away but I once heard it said a true measure of what you value is what you spend money on. Did you know that the only thing God ever tells us to test him on is giving? It’s true but that’s another post.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)

  • The main thing I want to point out is all the great benefits of wisdom and seeking God for it. With all the pros why are we so stubborn sometimes? Where are you being stubborn today? What should you be giving to God and asking for his help with? What steps will you take to start letting go of some of the control on your life so you can learn to live freely to love God and love others?
