Second Chances: Week 1

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Verve Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Group, feel free to use them on your own.
This week we started the series called Second ChancesIf you missed it, you can listen to it here.
  1. What is the longest you've gone without sleep? Tell us the story behind why you went so long without sleep.
  2. This week, we began a series called, Second Chances. Let's take a closer look at the story of Peter denying Jesus. Read from the New Testament of the Bible in the book of John 13:36-38, John 18:15-18, verses 25-27 and John 21:15-19.
  3. When you read this story and see that Peter denied Jesus not once, not twice, but three times, what thoughts do you have towards Peter? Do you think, I would never do that or can you relate to Peter? Why?
  4. When Jesus told Peter he would deny Him three times before the rooster crowed, do you think Peter thought Jesus was crazy or do you think it scared him because He is all knowing and Peter didn't want it to be true? Why?
  5. When have you denied God in your own life? How did you feel after you realized what you did?
  6. After Jesus dies on the cross and resurrects from the dead, He restores His relationship with Peter. What kind of impact does this have on you seeing that He gave Peter a second chance?
  7. Is there shame from your sins still weighing you down today? If so, how long have you been carrying this shame? If not, how do you release the shame from your sins so you don't carry it anymore?
  8. Why do you think it was so easy for Peter to deny Jesus all three times?
  9. Weekly Check In Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
