January 27 - Ezekiel 11

Today's reading in our daily plan is Ezekiel 11. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
  • Today’s chapter is a vision Ezekiel had about the judgement that was going to fall on the leaders of Israel. The leaders had been telling the people of Israel that nothing bad could happen to them, they should continue their lives as normal and feel safe (see verse 3). God knew every word the leaders spoke along with their thoughts and he promised that because of their disobedience, the leaders would receive a judgment of death.
  • As Ezekiel prophesized to the leaders in this vision, one of them suddenly died and Ezekiel cried out to the Lord wanting to know if everyone in Israel was doomed God replied that he would be with his people, wherever there are; those who turned to God, followed his commands with live would be returned to the land of Israel and become truly and fully committed to God.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
  • God’s mercy is seen in this passage as he declares to the people that he will welcome back those who seek him honestly. Discipline is necessary as a consequence for the sins the people and the leaders have committed but God never gives up on the people. God does not offer his love based on a set of actions, rather we see that God’s forgiveness is tied to what is in people’s hearts and minds.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
  • A variety of leaders, formal and informal, will cross our paths throughout our lives. Parents, teachers, bosses, friends, celebrities, influencers, they will all share their thoughts and ideas on how to live. How often do you ask God for advice? Today, take a moment and talk to God. Share with him a decision you’re struggling with, ask him for guidance, and sit quietly to listen with your heart.
