SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)
- God is giving his word that he will restore Israel and that he is faithful. He also adds that putting Israel back together is not enough and that bringing salvation to the entire world is actually much more important. The word Gentiles is specifically used in this section and that represents any person who is not of Jewish descent.
- God talks about his comfort and his compassion. He also brings up the fact that Israel might feel forgotten when they are in captivity, but he gives a comparison to a mother and her baby and says that forgetting his people is impossible.
SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)
God gives a lot of important attributes to his character in this chapter. Verse 6 is probably the most important because it foreshadows Jesus and how he will bring salvation to everyone on earth. This should bring an even greater desire to share Jesus with those who don’t know him because that was God’s original intention.
NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)
- Are you experiencing a period of darkness in your life or a time where you’re continually feeling alone? Ask God to comfort you because that is who he is. He is a God of compassion and comfort and is always walking through your struggles no matter what.
