Better Than Loneliness

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we continued a series called Better  and talked about "Better Than Loneliness". If you missed it, you can listen to it here.
  1. In Psalm 25:16, David prays, "Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely."
    • When have you felt lonely? Why did you have those feelings?
    • When you feel lonely, do you bring those feelings to God, like David did? Why or why not?
    • In the Bible it's very obvious that God cares about the lonely. How does it make you feel that God has a heart for and is close to the lonely?
  2. In the message, Vince said some of our feelings of loneliness may be a longing for God. If we're separated from God, or just not as close to God as we should be, we will have a sense of loneliness. No person can fill that lonely place.
    • Do you think it's possible that you are dealing with a longing to be closer to God? Why or why not?
    • What is one specific thing you could do to get closer to God?
    • Will you do it? What might stop you?
  3. Our loneliness is not just about missing God. We know that because we see in the Bible that the first person, Adam, had a perfect relationship with God, but God still called him "alone." We need God, but we also need other people.
    • What are some of the factors or issues that can keep you from experiencing real friendship with other people? (Fear? Introversion? Feeling like you don't need other people?)
    • How long have you struggled with whatever it is that can keep you from relationships with other people? Why do you think it's an issue?
    • What could you, what "relational risk" could you take, to develop some new friends, and to go deeper with the friends you have?
    • Have you signed up for a Verve Group? If not, that's one thing you should definitely do.
  4. Weekly Check In Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
