Questions: Thidwick

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we continued our series called Disappointment With God and talked about "Making Sense Of It All". If you missed it, you can listen to it here.

  1. What is something or someone you should probably say no to, but struggle to say no to?
  2. Where do you see boundary issues in your life? What result do those boundary issues lead to in your life?
    • You feeling overwhelmed by all of the responsibilities you've taken on?
    • People resenting you because you put responsibilities on them that they didn't really want?
    • Something else?
  3. Jesus said, in Matthew 5:37, "Simply let your yes be yes and your no be no - anything beyond this comes from the evil one."
    • What do you think He meant by that?
  4. In the message this week we learned how important it is to say yes to the right things, and no to the wrong things. The Bible tells us, in Proverbs 17:27, "A man of knowledge uses words with restraint."
    • This is probably true in general, but maybe especially with saying no to the things we need to say no to.
    • Why do you think it can be so hard to say no when someone asks us to do something, even if it's something we really don't want to do?
  5. Jesus, even though He was the most kind and compassionate person ever, often said no to people's requests. Vince said it was because "He had great clarity about His identity, HIs heart, His calling, and His mission."
    • Do you think it's possible you have trouble saying no because of a lack of clarity about your identity, heart, calling and/or mission?
    • How could you grow in your understanding of who you uniquely are and what exactly God has called you to do and invest your life in?
  6. In the message, Vince talked about "compliants" (who have a hard time saying no) and "controllers" (who have a hard time hearing no).
    • Honesty time: Are you a controller? Do you try to intimidate or manipulate people so they'll do what you want them to?
    • If so, do you think this may show a lack of trust in God? If you really trusted God, believing that He's in control and He'll do what's best, would you need to try to control other people?
  7. Is there something you've been saying no to that you need to say yes to?
  8. Is there something you've been saying yes to that you need to say no to?
  9. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
