Questions: You Can Fix It Yourself

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we continued our series called Flip The Script and talked about "You Can Fix It Yourself" If you missed it, you can listen to it here.

  1. We all have strengths ... and weaknesses. What is one of your weaknesses? (Don't worry, we won't judge!) What is something you just can't seem to do on your own? (Fix a car? Cook? Manage your money? Use your computer? Etc.)
  2. In the message this week, Vince talked about believing that we can fix "it" ourselves. That we each have something we believe we can fix ourselves - maybe a circumstance in our lives, or another person, or some personal issue. What is "it" for you?
  3. When we buy into the lie that we can fix it ourselves, it increases pride. The Bible says God opposes the proud (for instance, in Proverbs 3:34, James 4:6, and 1 Peter 5:5). Why do you think God is so against pride in us?
    • How do you think God's being against pride in us is a reflection of His love for us
  4. Buying into the "I can do it myself" lie also feeds guilt. You've taken responsibility and if you can't do it yourself, you feel bad. When have you experienced that kind of guilt?
  5. Read Hebrews 4:14-15, "Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet he did not sin."
  6. Jesus being our high priest means he represents us before God. In what way is that reassuring to you?
  7. Jesus came to earth and lived a human life. That means he understands what you go through. How is that reassuring to you?
  8. Read Hebrews 4:16, "So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most."
  9. What holds you back from going to God when you're struggling?
  10. How does it help you to know that because of Jesus, God understands your weaknesses and temptations, and offers you mercy and grace?
  11. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
