New Verve Group: First Night!

If you have a new Verve Group starting this week, here's a great plan for your first night:

  1. Explain why, as the leader, you're excited for the group. That the idea of Verve Groups is that they might help us to grow towards becoming love God, love people, turn the world upside down kinds of followers of Jesus. That happens in people’s lives better when we do life together. And we’re going to do life together in this group and because of this group.
  2. The idea of a Verve Group is that it will be a safe place, where you can talk openly about what you’re going through. So take some time to get to know each other so you can start feeling comfortable with each other. Have each person take about 5 minutes to tell their story. They might share things like:
    • Where are you from?
    • What was your family like?
    •  What do you do for a living?
    • How did you get to Vegas?
    • What’s your family situation like now?
    • What’s your background with God and church?
    •  How did you come to Verve?
  3. Take a quick look at this passage from the Bible to help see why Verve Groups are so important: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. 10 If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. 11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? 12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
  4.  These verses point out the importance of doing life together instead of alone. We want Verve Groups to allow people to get to know each other, form friendships, and do life together.
  5. So let’s talk about some of the “rules” for  groups. They are:
    • We ask people to make being at group a priority. Of course there will be weeks where you’re sick or out of town, but if you can be here you need to be here. The power of the group will come as we get together consistently and share life together. If you can’t make it for any reason, please let the leader know. That way the group can get started instead of waiting for you.
    •  Confidentiality: Everything that is said in the group stays in the group. This is a safe place where you can share anything, and to feel that way we need to know that nothing will leave the group.
  6. Every week we’ll ask for things we can pray for each other. Either something good we can thank God for and celebrate with you, or maybe a challenge you’re facing that we can be praying for you about. So what can we pray for you this week?
