Questions: Captain America

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we continued our series called I Want A Movie Life and talked about "Captain America" If you missed it, you can listen to it here.

  1. Who is your all-time favorite super hero? Why?
  2. What are examples of things you wish you could do, but don't feel like you have enough power? (It might be a new habit you want to start, or a behavior you want to stop, or something good you'd like to do for the world, or ... anything.)
  3. Read Acts 1:8
  4. The Holy Spirit is God's presence come to live inside of people who put their faith in Him and invite Him into their lives. We learn from Jesus (here in Acts 1:8 and elsewhere) that "being strong isn't about my power, it's about higher power."
    • What do you think it would look like for you to rely on God's power instead of your own power? What would need to change? How might your life look different?
  5. Read John 2:1-11
  6. Does it surprise you that Jesus went to a wedding where there was lots of drinking going on? Or that He helped supply wine for the wedding? Why or why not?
  7. We learn from Jesus that "being good isn't about being a goody two shoes, it's about being good news."
    • Would you say you struggle more with being a goody two shoes - with separating yourself and not really getting involved with real people and their real life situations OR with not being good news - so you're involved with real people, but you're not really different from them, so you're not really sharing Jesus with them through your example or your words?
    • How could you do better with this moving into 2017?
  8. Read John 17:20-21
  9. In the Captain America movie we see a disagreement tearing apart The Avengers. In the Bible we see Jesus brining people together because of His love and His mission. We learn from Jesus that "being a team isn't about uniformity, it's about unity." We don't have to agree on everything to be unified by our love for Jesus and our commitment to His mission.
    • How have you seen Christians divide over small, insignificant issues?
    • How could you experience more unity with people in your group and church?
  10. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
