Questions: Grace > Weakness

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we continued our series called Grace > and talked about "Grace > Weakness" If you missed it, you can listen to it here.

  1. What is a weakness you have, something you're not good at, that isn't a big deal, but is a bit embarrassing or annoying?
  2. God's grace is that He's willing to treat us the opposite of what we deserve. Despite our sin, He wants to forgive us, be in relationship with us, and bless us. In our new series we're talking about the vital importance of God's grace and how it is greater than any struggle we have.
    • This week Vince said, "We're only able to receive God's grace to the extent we're able to recognize our need for it."
    • Do you agree, or disagree, with that statement? Why?
  3. Vince also said, "We live in a culture that celebrates strength and condemns weakness, but grace enables us to celebrate our weakness. When we celebrate our weakness, it opens the floodgates for grace to pour into our lives. When grace pours into our lives, it allows us to celebrate our weakness all the more. It's kind of a circle. A beautiful circle."
    • Have you ever experienced this in your life? When have you celebrated your weakness and thereby received grace? Did it allow you to celebrate your weaknesses even more?
  4. Read 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
  5. God loved Paul, so why do you think He wasn't willing to remove this "thorn in the flesh" (which we don't know what it was) that was so troubling to Paul?
  6. Paul, who we see here complaining vehemently about his circumstances, later said, "I have learned the secret of being content in any situation" (see Philippians 4:12). Apparently, Paul learned that God's grace IS greater than any weakness and IS enough.
    • How would it change your life if you knew the "secret" of being content in any and every circumstance?
    • How can you learn that secret through your weaknesses?
    • When you feel stuck in your weaknesses or bad circumstances, do you complain and seek to change it OR do you seek to learn about God's grace through it?
  7. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
