Questions: Living In Your True Identity

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we continued our series called Tattooed and talked about "Living In Your True Identity" If you missed it, you can listen to it here.

  1. What is something new you've learned (like playing the piano, or driving, or programming computer software, or swinging a golf club) that was hard at first and took a lot of practice to get right?
  2. The Bible teaches us that when a person becomes a Christian, he or she receives the identity of Jesus. From that moment on, that person is "in Christ" and that is how God sees him or her. That being true, what do you think makes it so difficult for many Christians to accept their new identity?
  3. Read Colossians 3:1-14
  4. We're encouraged to set our hearts (in verse 1) and our minds (in verse 2) on "things above."
  5. What do you think it means to set our hearts and minds on things above
  6. Why do you think this is important to do, especially in regard to living out our true identity
  7. Verse 3 tells Christians that they have died and their life is hidden with Christ in God. What does this say to you about your new and true identity?
  8. Verses 9 and 10 talk about taking off the old and putting on the new self, and then about being "renewed in knowledge." What do you think it might mean to be "renewed in knowledge"?
  9. How could you increase your knowledge of God's truth, to help this "renewing" process to happen in your life?
  10. Vince shared some of the things that have helped him to embrace his true identity (like going to a counselor, meditation on and memorizing Bible verses that explain who he truly is and getting input from trusted friends). What could you do to help you embrace your true identity?
  11. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
