Questions: Bullhorn

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we continued our series called A Big Fish Tale and talked about "Bullhorn" If you missed it, you can listen to it here.
  1. When have you encountered someone who was obnoxious about what he or she believed? What was it about? How did it impact you?
  2. In Jonah, chapter 4 (which the message at Verve was based on this weekend) we see that Jonah cares a lot about himself, but not at all about the Ninevites. Why do you think it's so easy for us  to not care about others, or to see the worst in others?
  3. Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
  4. In these verses, the Bible says that no matter what we do in life, no matter how amazing our accomplishments, if we don't have love (for God and people) what we've done is worthless.
  5. It seems that Jonah enjoyed telling the Ninevites bad news. In the message, Vince asked if we're like Jonah in that way. Here are some signs that you might be:
    • You have a "turn or burn" attitude about non-Christians.
    • You enjoy being the bearer of bad news.
    • You judge others as being worse sinners than you.
    • You enjoy seeing someone else get a speeding ticket, or hearing about a rich person who went bankrupt.
  6. If you are like Jonah in that way, why do you think that's true of you? What is leading to your lack of compassion for others?
  7. Unfortunately, Jonah enjoyed telling the Ninevites bad news, but at least he told them what God wanted him to. God wants Christians to share the good news with non-Christians, to let them know that despite their sin God still loves them and that they can have a relationship with Him by putting their faith in Jesus. Most Christians don't do this.
  8. If you struggle with telling non-Christians about Jesus, why do you think that's true of you? What is leading you to not do the main thing God has asked you to do?
  9. What would help you to share your faith with others and invite them to church?
  10. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
