Questions: The Cost Of Not Following

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we had a new series called The Cost Of Not and talked about "The Cost Of Not Following" If you missed it, you can listen to it here.
  1. What is something that has cost you a lot? What did it cost you? Do you feel like it was worth it?
  2. Jesus said, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:29-30).
  3. If what Jesus said is true, what is the cost of not following Him, of not "taking His yoke" upon us?
    • Have you ever experienced that cost of not following Jesus? In what way?
  4. The Bible says in 1 John 5:3, "In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome."
    • Most people would probably say that it is a burden to have to live by God's commands.  Why do you think that's true?
    • In what way do you think living by God's commands actually lightens our burden?
  5. In this week's message, Vince talked about the journey of following Jesus as a four stage progression: Listening (where you learn about Jesus), then Being Inconvenienced (you start to feel uncomfortable and realize you need to start acting on what you're learning), then Take Jesus Fishing (you decide to start living Jesus' way instead of your old way), then Surrendering All Of Your Life To Jesus.
    • Of those four phases, where would you say you are right now?
    • What is a practical step you can take to move towards or into the next phase?
  6. Accountability Question:  How have you been inviting God into all your decisions?
  7. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
