Questions: Going Back to Go Forward

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we continued our series called Back To The Future and talked about "???" If you missed it, you can listen to it here.
  1. What is the scariest movie you’ve ever seen and how did it affect you?
  2. Ryan mentioned that he can totally relate to Esau’s need to satisfy immediate gratification by trading his birthrights for his soup. Can you relate to this as well? In what ways have you trade something in for something immediate?
  3. Read Genesis 32:11-12. It’s natural to just want God to fix our circumstances. What might have been a better prayer for Jacob to have prayed? How should that shape how we pray about our pasts?
  4. Ryan made the point that we often have to go through Edom to get to Canaan. We often have to face our past to get to our future.
    • How did this prove true for Jacob and Esau (see Genesis 33:1-4)?
    • How has this (or could this) proven true for you?
  5. In what way(s) have you commonly dealt with painful issues in your life: Denial, Control, or Reaction?
  6. Why are each of these destructive to our ability to move beyond what has happened and into a better future?
  7. What “Edom(s)” are you being led to go through today? Is there something from your past that needs to be dealt with so you can move forward with hope?
  8. What is your next step?
  9. Accountability Question:  How have you passionately pursued meaningful time with God this week?
  10. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
