Questions: Digging Ditches

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we continued our series called Back To The Future and talked about "Digging Ditches" If you missed it, you can listen to it here.
  1. What's the one thing you want God to do for you more than anything else? (Help your marriage? Get you out of debt? A new job? Find the right person to marry? Be closer to Him?)
  2. Read 2 Kings 3:9-20
  3. The troops are dehydrated. They need water but cannot get it. It would take a miracle; only God can give them water. They pray, and God tells them to dig ditches.
    • Why do you think God doesn't just magically create containers and then fill them with water?
    • Why might God want them to participate in the miracle?
  4. What are some of the reasons (excuses) they could have had to not dig ditches?
  5. Despite reasons not to, they do what God asks. Why do you think they obeyed Him?
  6. They dug (they showed up) and God filled the ditches with water (God showed off). How do you think they felt when they realized their hard work paid off and set the stage for God to do a miracle for them?
  7. In the one thing you want God to do for you, what is a ditch you could dig?
    • How could you do what you can do, so God can do what only God can do?
    • How can you play your part and set the stage for God to do a miracle?
  8. Vince made the big announcement that we are going to add an additional Sunday morning service in February. We want to create more open seats so God can fill them with people. What part could you play to set the stage for God to do that miracle?
  9. Why do you think God wants you to participate in the miracle of bringing lots more people to Verve and having their lives eternally changed?
  10. How do you think it would feel for you to know you played your part and were a part of experiencing that miracle?
  11. Accountability Question:  How have you allowed God to show you where you can generously invest your time, talent, and treasure into His Kingdom?
  12. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
