Questions: Get Out Of The Boat

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we began a new series Summer By The Lake and talked about "Get Out Of The Boat" If you missed it, you can listen to it here.
  1. What's your favorite summer time activity?
  2. Read Matthew 14:22-33
  3. Peter had the thought of walking to Jesus on the water, then he spoke it out loud to Jesus. How do you think saying it out loud might have helped him to get up the courage to do it?
  4. In the message at Verve, Vince said telling someone your dream can help you move towards making it reality. Do you think that might be true? Why or why not?
  5. So, time to say it out loud: What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?
  6. What do you think is keeping you from going for it?
  7. After saying it out loud, Peter took a (scary) step out of the boat. What is a step you can take out of "the boat" and towards doing what you really want to do?
  8. Part of living an adventure is a willingness to face obstacles and even fail. Do you have that willingness? Why or why not?
  9. What was the difference between when Peter was standing on water and sinking in it? How could that lesson help you to move forward despite your fear?
  10. Accountability Question:  How have I allowed God to show me where I can generously invest my time, talent, and treasure into His Kingdom?
  11. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
