Questions: Worship & The Arts

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we concluded our series, Ancient/Future Spirituality, and we talked about "Worship & The Arts " If you missed it, you can listen to it here.
  1. What's your favorite forms of art? Paintings? Movies? Music? Poetry? Dance? What about it appeals to you?
  2. What did you think of Verve's service this week? How did experiencing the different types of art impact you?
  3. When Steve Jobs was on his deathbed, the famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma visited and played Bach for him. Jobs teared up and said, "Your playing is the best argument I've heard for the existence of God, because I don't believe a human alone can do this."
    • Why do you think the arts can have such a powerful effect on people?
    • When have you had art (a song, a painting, a movie) impact you in a profound way? What happened?
  4. Vince talked about how being creative and expressing yourself through art is part of what it means to be created in the image of God. In what ways are you creative and do you express yourself through art?
    • If your answer is, "None" or "I don't", do you feel like that's something missing in your life? How might you start doing this in some small way?
  5. The Bible says in Isaiah 64:8, "Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are the work of your hand" and in Ephesians 2:10, "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago."
    • How does it feel to know that you are God's greatest work of art?
    • How should knowing that change your life?
  6. Accountability Question:  How have you allowed God to love you just the way you are, and how have you allowed Him to show you where He loves you too much to leave you that way?
  7. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
