Questions: God For The Guilty

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we began a new series God For The Rest Of Us and talked about "God For The Guilty" If you missed it, you can listen to it here.
  1. Do you remember a time when, as a kid, your parents caught you doing something and you felt guilty? Got a story to share?
  2. Read John 8:1-11
  3. How do you think this woman felt when the religious leaders caught her in the act of adultery?
  4. How do you think she felt when they dragged her, naked, in front of a crowd of people and then to have her sin announced in front of them?
  5. She probably didn't know who He was, but if she knew that Jesus was God in the flesh, perfect and holy, what do you think she would have assumed about how He would respond to her sin?
  6. How do you think God responds to you when you've sinned?
  7. We learn, in Jesus, that God is a God of compassion. How should knowing that change how you do life?
    • How should it change what you do when you sin?
  8. Jesus, letting this woman go without punishment, might make it seem like her sin wasn't a big deal. But it was. All sin is a big deal, and all sin has to be punished. That's why Jesus went to the cross, to take her punishment, and ours'. How should knowing that your sin is so serious that Jesus died for it help you want to not sin anymore?
  9. Accountability Question:  How have I allowed God to love me just the way I am, and how have I allowed Him to show me where He loves me too much to leave me that way?
  10. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
