Questions: God For The Addicts

We provide questions each week based on the theme of our service for our Micro Groups to use. If you're not in a Verve Micro Group, feel free to use them on your own.

This week we continued our series God For The Rest Of Us and talked about "God For The Addicts" If you missed it, you can listen to it here.
  1. What's the best thing that happened to you this week?
  2. Read Romans 5:6-11
  3. This passage says that Jesus died for us "at just the right time" which was "when we were still powerless." Why do you think the right time was when we were still powerless?
  4. Jesus died for you when you were at your worst. What does that say to you?
  5. Verse 9 says we have been "justified by His blood." Justified means to have your sins removed. By trusting in what Jesus did for you on the cross, the blood He shed on the cross removes your sins. Have you said yes to God's offer and put your faith in what Jesus did on the cross?
  6. So, it was when we were full of sin and had made ourselves "God's enemies" (verse 10) and object of His wrath that Jesus chose to die for us. Now, if we've put our faith in Him, we are viewed by God as sinless and His children. If Jesus was willing to die for us when we were at our worst, what sin wouldn't God forgive you of now?
  7. How can knowing that God will forgive your sins help you not to sin?
  8. Often, what drives us to sin is that we're looking to something else to give us what only God can give us. Think about a sin that's tempting and been a problem for you.
    • What do you think you're really looking for in that sin? To feel loved? Excitement? A sense of belonging? Pain avoidance? Something else?
    • How could God meet that need if you were to look to Him instead of giving in to temptation?
  9. Accountability Question:  How have I passionately pursued meaningful time with God this week?
  10. Prayer Question:  What could we be praying for you this week? (Is this there something good we could celebrate with you, or a challenge you need God's help with?)
